Microsoft Project Level 1
An essential course for beginners or self-taught users. Learn how to create and manage project plans from scratch, set task dependencies, work with Gantt charts and track progress so that your plan reflects reality rather than just a list of tasks.
Microsoft Project Level 2
Build on the basics and start to use Project as a more powerful planning tool. Learn to manage multiple projects, apply constraints, work with calendars, costs and critical paths, and use baselines so that you can compare your original plan with what is actually happening.
Microsoft Project Level 3
Deepen your project control skills. Learn advanced scheduling techniques, earned value analysis, resource levelling and how to customise views and reports so that stakeholders see the information they need in a clear, consistent way.
Microsoft Project Level 4
For advanced users and PMO professionals working in complex environments. Explore macros, automation, integration with other Microsoft tools and project templates, so that you can standardise the way projects are built and reported across your organisation.
MS Project Training FAQs
Which Microsoft Project level should I choose?
If you are new to Microsoft Project or have only used it briefly, Level 1 is the best place to start. If you already build basic plans but want to work with costs, baselines or multiple projects, Level 2 is usually the right next step. Level 3 and 4 are best suited to experienced users, senior project managers and PMO staff who need advanced control, reporting and automation. If you share your experience and what you need to achieve, we can recommend a level.
Do I need previous experience with Microsoft Project?
You do not need any prior experience for Level 1, although a basic understanding of project concepts such as tasks, milestones and deadlines is helpful. The higher levels assume you are already comfortable creating and updating plans and want to go deeper into control, reporting, resource management or automation.
Is this training suitable if we use PRINCE2, APM or Agile methods?
Yes. Microsoft Project is a tool that can sit alongside whatever project management framework you use. Our trainers are familiar with common methods such as PRINCE2, APM and Agile, and will show you how to reflect your own lifecycle, stages and governance in your Project plans rather than teaching the software in isolation.
Do I need my own copy of Microsoft Project for the course?
For virtual courses you will need access to Microsoft Project on your own device so that you can take part in the hands-on exercises. We will confirm the required version and any setup steps before the course. For in-centre courses, software will be provided on our training machines.
Can you run a Microsoft Project course just for our organisation?
Yes. We regularly deliver closed-company Microsoft Project courses for specific teams, departments and PMO functions. This allows us to use your templates, terminology and reporting needs, and to focus on the features that matter most in your environment.
Does the course include an exam or official certification?
These courses focus on practical skills and confidence in using Microsoft Project day to day. There is no formal Microsoft exam attached, but you will receive a Skilltec certificate of completion and access to post-course support. If you are working towards a broader project management qualification, the skills you gain will support the practical side of your role.
What support is available after the course?
After attending, you can contact us with questions about topics covered on your course. Many delegates use this to check their approach once they start applying new skills to live projects, or to ask for clarification on particular features.
