Course Overview:

This one-day workshop explores the principles of Project Management and discusses the project management skills needed to complete projects on time and on budget. Attendees will learn how to set-up, plan and deliver projects to quality, time and budget expectations whilst encouraging team members cooperation and accountability. This course will equip participants with practical tools and techniques to manage projects confidently from initiation to closure.

Target Audience:

This course is best suited for non-project managers or individuals who are becoming responsible for planning projects or change initiatives and are in their first year of doing so. This course is designed to provide a framework and tools to build their delivery skills and confidence.

  • Success factors and common pitfalls
  • Crafting a project brief (instead of a charter)
  • Aligning expectations and using visual tools like RACI and SIPOC for early clarity
  • Mapping influence and impact: stakeholder grids, team charters and responsibility matrices
  • Communication planning for diverse audiences
  • Scope definition and scope creep techniques: MoSCoW, user stories, and acceptance criteria and change control
  • Building a realistic schedule using task dependencies and constraints
  • Navigating risk and uncertainty
  • Progress tracking
  • Deliverable handover and stakeholder sign-off, workshops and knowledge capture

Prerequisites:

To get the most from this course, you should be in a position responsible for planning projects or change initiatives.  You should also have experience of using both Microsoft Word and Excel due to a large project planning activity which requires the creation of a simple Gantt chart and project presentation.
